Jason Berggren – Writer

I have always loved movies. Even today, as busy as I am with my wife, four kids, a business, and writing, I watch about two movies a week. I like all kinds, even chick flicks every once in a while. But my favorite genres are sci-fi (with a post-apocalyptic flare) and zombie movies.

For me, movies are built on a trinity: character(s), story, and setting. A film must execute at least two of these well in order to be considered decent—or worth paying the box office price. Character(s) need to develop, the story has to draw me in, and the setting should help usher the aforementioned elements along. I believe the setting should be a garnish, and never the main course. At a risk, some movies give setting (by highlighting a penchant for, or advance in, special effects) a front seat, like with an effects-driven movie. It can work, so long as character development endures or the story is compelling.

Most recently, I wrote a book called 10 Things I Hate About Christianity: Working Through the Frustrations of Faith. It records the raw process of my 20-year faith set against the real-life backdrop of my roles as a former rocker, ex-pastor, husband, father, and small business owner.

On my site jasonberggren.com I regularly discuss Christian issues, current events, and pop culture.

Here is a list of my favorite movies in alphabetical order. Although I don’t consider myself a movie buff, I am obviously a movie junkie.
