Michael Welch sings for his Miami supper…

When asked in front of this audience blasting with energy how he feels about the Twilight phenomena. Michael Welch immediately replies with,

“It’s insane man, it’s insane…you people are insane, but I love you so much. It’s a story that creates so much passion; so much energy, to the point where you are in the present of just screams…but it’s really adorable, I love it. I love it…and it’s because of you guys we get to travel the world and live our dreams. It’s amazing so I appreciate it, thank you.

He then goes on to tell the fans (who are all giddy and overheating with passion) how on a night out to a Chinese restaurant with the cast, he ended up alone with Robert Pattinson in his (Pattinson’s) hotel room.  “Ooooh” he taunts everyone who starts up their vocal engines just at the sound of the name. “Pat-Pat I called him…yeah I am joking, I wouldn’t call him that”. Welch tells how Pattinson gave him musical advice. It’s very interesting advice as I would never have broken down the music making process in this way. The first step is to figure what the emotion of the song is and where it’s coming from, then add sounds into the areas words which coincide with these emotions “Whatever flows out” he says. Finally after all that, the words should fall into place. This all done with a humorous Edward Cullen implied accent.

Who does the self addressed “that human guy” wish to become more, a werewolf or a vampire? Welch opts for the wolf man life. Only by Twilight’s supernatural rules. Mostly because they include the negation of the uncontrollable and fierce full moon transformation habit they have. Welch likes that he would be able to transform at will, “be super instantly ripped, and hunt rabbits or whatever else they do.”

One of the fans, Yvette, asks him a question that peeps out of some corner in the massive house.  “I know you sing, can you sing something for us?” He laughs this off, admitting he isn’t a singer, but among the Twilight cast, he is a karaoke master. “Any requests?” .Then almost on cue a group of people in the theater seats, from around the middle section, comes “JOURNEY!” The madness is captured here – “Don’t stop believing”.

Welch performs the GLEE heart-stopper, Don’t Stop Believing at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, June 26 2010.
